American Flags and American People

I took a trip around the block today with a 50mm macro.

...I'm starting to get tired of it, but learning how to anticipate the moment and not motor drive everything.

Stirring up controversy

I guess most people don't see the subtleties in photos that us nuts do. When I looked at the photo, I didn't just see an ass, but a moment. This person thought differently...

Sports photo choice prompts objection (A letter to the editor)

The picture of Monroe High’s Katy Younglove on the front page of the Sports section in the Wednesday edition reflects very poor editorial judgment on the part of The Monroe Evening News.
There have been other pictures in past editions, on the Sports page, which have highlighted young adults in particularly awkward or potentially revealing positions. We have let those pass by believing them to be one-time occurrences; however, this particular picture of Ms. Younglove is so egregiously voyeuristic and blatantly sexist that we felt we must bring it to the attention of the editorial board of The News.
We cannot imagine that Ms. Younglove or her family is pleased to have such a shot of her in the newspaper. Perhaps The News could take a close look at the Sports shots that they publish and consider whether or not they would want their son or daughter pictured in such a way.

A Family Gathering

I went to a family gathering today for a story I'm working on. Everyone was there, from the great grandmother to the newest kid.

DDR, baby!

Mascot Madness

A local school had a special ceremony to introduce new mascot costumes to the school. These were the old ones. The one on the left cut open a basketball for a hat. I asked him if he got the idea from wondering if a basketball would fit over his head. He said yes.

Jazzin' it up

There was a jazz series at 6 different venues last night. It's pretty unique for a small town like this to have something entertaining, so it was a treat.

Spalsh Universe

I went to an indoor water park last night. It was pretty dead since it was a school night, so I took this photo of a lifeguard on her post.

The Many Faces of Wallace Anson

A 70-year-old man, homeless for 21 years in Ann Arbor, talked my ear off for about an hour during my visit. He talked about everything from the grace of God to his fondest of childhood memories. It was a give and take relationship.

My assignment today was canceled because school was canceled due to--get this--fog. So I did some exploring...

Propane Fire...What??

I shot a huge propane fire yesterday. Explosions everywhere. Even the firefighters evacuated until it calmed down. I got there pretty early on so I was able to shoot before they evacuated the whole area. Kinda crazy.

My First Day

Today was my first day at MEN (Monroe Evening News). I shot a high school girls golf team whose clubs were stolen from their coaches car last week. Kid Rock and pro golfer John Daly donated a new set of clubs to the team...how weird.
