So I'm working on the grandma as the roots/glue that holds the family together angle for the story. We'll see where it goes though. She always wants to know where everyone is, and tells the "bad" kids to "go home to their daddies." She really does look out for everyone and is always sharing her wisdom. And she's just so cool. I went over today and sat outside with her and some of the kids for about 5 hours. It was a beautiful day out, in the 70s with a nice breeze. So I wasn't complaining, but it was a challenge to see how many different photos I could take in nearly the same exact spot. These next three are similar in composition/moments, so let me know which you think is the best.
Emma is flicking off her friend, who is across the lawn, in this one...
In these next two, they are looking at the clouds.
Grandma fell off her chair, so I helped her up.

the first one is my favorite because its a telling sort of moment. juxatpositioning it up. disgusted/playful. old/young. you know. her hands are so cool and full of pretty texture, but you know you will find something better than that. peeling those yams for the babies or something. either way, it makes me happy that your spending so much time with her. this will be great.
I agree with Andrea - first one shows her as "headmaster" of the family. its dominating, love her looking out. like the family protector. runners-up for me are her and granddaughter looking at clouds (the first one - its cleaner) and the her catching the granddaughter flipping the bird - did she scold her granddaughter for that? does she discipline them or does she leave that to mom. what is the relationship with her own daughter? i don't see that yet. who plays what role in this family? i guess you could work that a little. and I WANT AN OVERALL ... show me a street scene with their house ... pretty please ... with sugar.
Hold your horses sen. I'm working on it. I do have a couple that I took after talking with you. But I think I can do better.
Although I am no professional, I like the third one best. I really like the shadow on her arm, and it also seems to display some sort of teaching at play. Grandma says, look at THAT cloud, and emma is looking.
I also really like the one of her hair. Instead of showing a moment its showing a characteristic, which is also great.
