snow and wreckage

I encountered this on the way back from the office. It had just happened when I got there. This guy was walking around fine, with a little blood on his forehead. But when the ambulance got there, they decided to put him in a brace and take him to the hospital along with his wife. So, he flashed the peace sign before going down.

And then there was snow...

loooooove how you're picking these tiny bursts of color. that guy's eyes are so crazy. and the first snuggling in the snow photo is muy lindo.

I love the composition of the third photo (where the guy is laying down). Did they run that one? I hope so.

The colors man...

Thanks guys. They didn't run the wreckage one. I actually didn't even turn it in. It was a pretty small wreck, and I don't see the purpose of running something like that unless it affected many people or was more serious. I might be wrong though. Any thoughts?

I often feel alone in this, but if the photo's worth looking at (or if it will make someone pause and look at the page longer) then it is worth running. If it was trumped by more important/news worthy photos and there was no whole in the paper to squeeze it into, then I understand.

is there a wrong or right answer? it seems to be a matter of opinion that, when tested in a real news setting, tends to be resolved on one of those "agree to disagree" notes. i think my opinions usually line up with how you think, timmy. but these are interesting photos to look at, for sure, so i have to agree with T-McC in this case. had there been something much more newsworthy on this day, there's no reason to compete for space. however, if it came between running this or like something off the state AP wire, i would choose this. i know what you mean though -- i hate that feeling of being intrusive and struggling to rationalize it as your work, the news, when it is a blip of an incident. it doesn't seem worth it sometimes, but these fotos are cool and made in good taste.

I can definitely see what you guys are saying, and I do agree in parts. I know a lot of newspapers will shy away from accident photos unless they result in fatalities or a similar "news" hook. I guess my issue was being intrusive more than anything else. But this is something I think I need to learn to suck up sometimes.

And, there's so much news here, that they are rarely struggling to fill gaps.
