dam trip

I took a small trip to Arizona this week to cover a story on the Glen Canyon Dam. The Dept of the Interior is conducting an experiment where they release a huge amount of water from these giant jet tubes to carry sediment down the Colorado River to build up beaches used for recreation and wildlife habitat. The trip took us through some small towns, reminiscent of the wild west. The first photo is a cop car we passed in one of these small towns called "Orderville." They just park a cop car on the side of the road and put a dummy cop in the car to make people slow down as they drive through town. Pretty hilarious...

Lights in a sushi restaurant we ate at one night.

This is my close encounter with the wild west. Tumbleweed in the hotel parking lot. I'm still searching. I got close in some places along the way, but now I'm motivated to find that heroic cowboy on a galloping horse vanishing into the mist with a shotgun on his hip.

Such an inspiring place. Makes me want to start a moody atmospheric indie band.

Yes! First of all Speckman made your blog...that is nice. All great stuff...did you know my ancestors settled Orderville? Yes, knowing me and now knowing their great ideas is like drawing a big fat parallel huh? Apple doesn't fall far from the tree my friend.
