Festival of Color
Experiencing something like I did this evening is why I do what I do. Not only was I able to take part in the Hare Krishna Festival of Colors but I was able to try and capture it's meaning.
An orgy of neon colored powder filled the air moments after a huge bonfire draped with a menacing witch was lit. I felt for a moment that I was in a war zone just hit with canisters of tear gas. I crouched down in the thick fog, weary of getting too close to the gasoline-doused fire while trying to make sense of the forms and figures through my camera.
Once the chalk cleared, I regained my orientation and started to make some sense of the chaos. While unsuccessfully trying to save my camera from exposure I navigated through the mosh pit. Strangers slapped chalk on my face and random streams of dust covered me as I shot away.
Now that I'm all clean, I just want to do it all over again. And I have an insatiable craving for Krishna lunch.

Completely wonderful, that you were able to be there, that you took meaningful and candid photographs, and that you, not only saw the colors, but also felt them on your face.
that first pic makes me hot.
Burning witches and colored chalk eh? They need to advertise this stuff.
Wish I could've been there.

Not on planet earth anymore.. but in Color land!!! bring on Krishna lunch! I'm glad you got to enjoy a day of color and fun photographing. Now if only are hole crew was there to photograph it with ya;) sigh...
Wow I loved the video and images in the Holi video! It was definitely a different experience from what I had in India.
I followed a friend around that day... now I almost wish I was more in the mindset of being a PJer from more of a pedestrian view.
Lovely images nonetheless! :)
Really.. Great Hussin!!!
