YFZ Ranch Raid

Yesterday, the Child Protective Services made the women with children 6 nd over leave the shelter where they were keeping all the children. Authorities gave them the choice to go back to the ranch, so all of them did. In a hasty decision to get their story out there, the FLDS ranch decided to let all the media on to interview the women who felt like they wanted to talk. Although there were many who just watched or didn't come out, about 30 women shared their experiences. I was there to shoot video, but I was still able to shoot some stills. Also, there are three separate videos I did that are a more in depth view of what I did initially. Those are on the Deseret News Web site right after this one.

You impress me at every turn, Tim. I think a lot of emotion comes across in these videos. I'm guessing that Deseret Morning News' ownership (with degrees of separation) by the LDS Church played a roll in gaining you access, though I'm not sure exactly how that works. Are you all video over there right now?

Yep, that's why they sent me initially. Another photog is here with me doing stills. Getting sick of video, but for some of this stuff, it's interesting to hear what these women have to say and see their emotion. But another photographer is coming now that knows video, so hopefully I'll get back to shooting more. Two days without a camera is killing me...

Thanks for the feedback.

Tim I am so impressed. The thing that got me the most outside of these womens stories is your ability to capture video through the eye of stills. As I was watching them I saw your style of still come through, and then there would just be little movements that added so much tot he emotion that is in this story. You are doing a great job, I can't wait to see what happens when you get to put your still camera back in your hand;)
