Wildfire

There was a pretty big grass fire near the city on Monday. It seemed tame at first, but then it spread rapidly, pushing its way to the edge of many neighborhoods. I ended up abandoning my car and running around the neighborhood following the fire.

Dude, these are great photos. You did a great job covering this fire. I am however very disappointed in the fire fighters. This a backing fire with flame lengths around three feet and under, which isn't burning through cut grass and didn't leave a mark, from what I can see, on the home in the last photograph. I say foam line around the houses and let it burn.

Any time you are at a fire which is coming toward you when you aren't in the smoke and the fire is coming down a hill it is called a backing fire. This type of fire doesn't preheat fuel ahead of it and isn't nearly as dangerous as any other fire situation.

Great job!

Tim, cool stuff and rad use of the photo on the front page. I dig the layers and separation from the people and the fire.

oh yeah, also, the shot from a distance of the road leading to the homes surrounded by burnt brush is nice too.

Great photos Tim. The majority of these shots could be used as centerpieces, too. Keep blowing minds buddy.

Hey man, where are you? This photography thing is so silly.. you're forgetting about the love, the love man. Where is the love? Come back home and make your own news.

Thanks for the feedback all.

Jon: Love is where ever you dream it to be. It's in the flowers and the muck, the rain and the sun, the cup and saucer. And yes, it is also in Gainesville. My time will come young Jedi. Patience.
